Josué was born into a Catholic family in Mexico City. When he was about 5 years old, Dan & Peggy Whitcher, US missionaries to Mexico, met his parents and began to study the Gospel of John with them. Shortly after, in the fall of 1990, his parents were saved and God graciously changed their lives forever. At age thirteen, Josué was saved during a youth camp after hearing a sermon from Romans 12 on “offering your life as a living sacrifice”. In 2004, Josué enrolled at Pensacola Christian College and graduated in 2009 with a BA in Business Management. In July of 2013, Josué completed his Master of Divinity from Pensacola Theological Seminary. In the spring of 2019, Josué graduated from his three-year Doctoral Program on Expository Preaching. He is eager to continue putting into practice what he has learned.
At the age of 12, Rebekah believed on Jesus as her Lord and Savior after a revival service at Grace Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC. She was baptized and began to grow in the Lord, serving in her church and witnessing to others. She had several opportunities to make mission trips to Hispanic countries and God established in her heart a firm desire to reach the lost. She purposed in her heart to marry someone who had a burden for Spanish ministries.
We married in the summer of 2009, and while Josué finished his Master’s program, Rebekah spent three years teaching at Pensacola Christian Academy. During that time, we served the Lord at Pensacola Baptist Temple, working in the music, childrens’ ministries, and in reaching out with the Gospel to our community. In March 2011, we experienced the immense joy of welcoming our daughter Natanya to our family. She is a sweet 13-year-old who brings joy to everyone she meets. A few years ago, in October 2013, God blessed our family with the arrival of Santiago. He is a young boy that has traveled all across the country in his early age and who continues to grow in the Lord. More recently, on January 22, 2019, we had the great joy of having our third child, Sebastian. He is a blessing to our family and his two older siblings, enjoy him tremendously. We are so thankful for our family and realize how blessed we are.
We officially finished deputation November 1, 2015. We flew to Mexico City the next day and started working right away. On August 14, 2016 we celebrated the grand-opening of Abundant Grace Baptist Church, in Mexico City. We are sent out of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newington, CT, where the people have been so encouraging and Pastor Cary Schmidt has been such a guide and true friend. We are also working in partnership with BIMI.
According to inegi.org.mx 89.3% of the population of Mexico is Catholic. This represents more than 84 million people who do not know Christ as their Savior. The need is great and we are honored to go to share the life-changing Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Having lived in Mexico all my life, I know that a plan like this is something that has not been done before, at least, not successfully. I know that our vision seems like a long shot. But I am reminded that our God is a powerful God. Missions and church planting was His idea. It must be done. It can be done.
